When we were in Norwich last week I nipped back into St Peter Mancroft to photo the other green man I missed and realised there were actually two. One is another grinning tongue poker but interestingly there also seems to be a 'peeper' green lady. The date for beginning to build the church was 1433 which fits very well with the hairstyle she's ( Read more... )

If you are interested in this sort of thing I could do with your input. St Mary's Church in Bungay has some late 18thC roof bosses and I photographed two interesting ones with the new camera over half term. They are very different to the Medieval ones - more clumsily created. This doesn't mean they aren't as interesting as I quite like the naiveity ( Read more... )

Over the summer garienos and I visited several locations associated with foliate heads. Southwell in Nottinghamshire (sometimes pronounced "south-well" and sometimes pronounced "su-th-ull") has some famous ones which I have seen in books many times.
